SAWCLicious: Fried Tofu with XO Sauce

A simple recipe that I enjoy eating as an appetizer or snacks. I do have to warn you that not all people loves the taste of XO sauce as the taste is very Chinese.

Fried Tofu with XO Sauce

Ingredients
  • Tofu sliced into 2x2 cubes.
  • 3-4 tbsp. of sliced shallots
  • Leeks for garnishing
  • 3 tbsp. of XO Sauce
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Japanese Flour (used for Tempura)
  • Japanese Bread Crumbs (used for Tempura)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Option: Red chilies

Procedure
  1. Season tofu with salt and pepper. Then coat the sliced tofu in egg mixture and cover with flour.
  2. Bring it back to the egg mixture and coat with bread crumbs.
  3. Deep fry or pan fry tofu until cooked and set aside.
  4. In a pan/wok, add around 2 tbsp. of oil and saute shallots until translucent.
  5. Add the XO sauce and red chilies and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Place the tofu in a serving plate and top with the XO sauce. Add the leeks for garnishing.

The XO sauce also work very well with sauteed radish cake.
