SAWCLicious: Hawaiian Meatballs

To welcome summer in Brussels (What summer?!?), my friends have organized a Hawaiian themed dinner. I was all giddy to prepare Hawaiian food even with little knowledge I had. I went on a quest through the Internet to find out the top Hawaiian recipes and discovered a number of results with meatballs. So I decided to prepare meatballs, Hawaiian style! Here is the recipe to this easy dish.

Hawaiian Meatballs

Ingredients

  • A pack of ready-made meatballs (I found fresh meatballs in the grocery, around 16 pcs/pack.)
  • 1 can of pineapple tidbits
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch dissolved in 1/3 cup of water
  • 5 tbsp. of Corn oil
Procedure
  1. In a separate bowl, mix in the sugar, pineapple juice (from the can), soy sauce, and vinegar.
  2. In a pot, pour the corn oil and start frying the meatballs. Cook meatballs for 4-5 minutes at each side.
  3. Once the meatballs are browned, add the onion, ginger, green bell pepper, and the mixture from Step #1. Let it simmer for around 15-20 minutes. You can add some water if it is too dry, add more sugar if it is not sweet enough.
  4. After 20 minutes, pour the cornstarch mixture to the pot and stir. The sauce will thicken. Once it thickens, it is ready to serve.

  1. The summer in the Benelux is sad, it can make one really depressed. Luckily we can bring the sun to our houses with food like yours.
    Many greetings from Switzerland
